The
Leeds Emergency Medicine Departments offer 12-month Clinical Fellowships
designed to provide individually tailored experience and training for those who
want to develop a special interest in specific areas of Emergency Medicine
Fellowship
posts are available from ASAP/ February 2026
onwards.
The
post holders will be working at 60/40 clinical to non-clinical split of total
contracted time. There will be funding available for attending relevant
external courses.
The
posts are offered on a fixed term contract for 6 months up to 12 months in the
first instance. The post holder must be registered with GMC and hold a license
to practice.
The
post holder will be responsible for delivering care to patients within the
Emergency Departments at the Leeds General Infirmary and St James University
Hospital.
The
posts are adaptable to suit the candidate's areas of interest - Candidates will
be supported in developing a new service that supports the wider emergency
needs of the patients in Leeds. Leeds teaching hospital is a major trauma
center and has been successful in delivering training to specialist trainees in
emergency medicine and has also run a successful junior clinical fellow and a
senior clinical fellow program over the years. This being new posts allows the
candidate to tailor the non-clinical time to further develop their skills in
emergency medicine and work towards a non-clinical portfolio

post will allow you to work with an enthusiastic group of consultants with a
keen interest in simulation. Your responsibilities will include coordinating
an embedded weekly in situ simulation program across both of our adult
departments. We run a wide variety of simulations covering all EM
presentations including our monthly interprofessional trauma team
simulations. An interest in human factors and non-technical skills will serve
you well in this post.
During
your time with us, we will ensure that you have opportunities to develop your
own skills as simulation faculty with locally run courses such as
Introduction to Simulation and debriefing as well as ongoing constructive
feedback at each simulation. You will also have the opportunity to empower
junior and interprofessional colleagues to work alongside you.
Postgraduate
Medical Education
As
the Senior Clinical Fellow in Postgraduate Education, you will have dedicated
non-clinical time to pursue activities related to postgraduate education,
training and supervision. You will work alongside the departments college
tutors to develop and maintain a positive learning environment for clinicians
working in the department. There will be opportunities to get involved in
areas including (but not limited to) junior doctor teaching, senior teaching,
simulation, induction, FOAM-ed and trainee wellbeing. You will be supported
to develop your own educational skill set including teaching and curriculum
development. There is a study budget available and we will support you pursue
a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education or other relevant course.
Undergraduate
Medical Education
As
the Senior Clinical Fellow in Undergraduate Education, you will have
dedicated non-clinical time for the delivery of scheduled undergraduate
education for over 100 senior medical students each year. You will work
alongside the departments Undergraduate tutor to maintain the learning
environment and to support the development of students capabilities in
performance and practice. You will be expected to teach, support and mentor
the students on the shop floor, in the classroom and in a simulated clinical
environment. There is also the opportunity to be formally involved in
university summative assessment processes. This fellowship prioritises
support for you to transform your own capabilities relating to educational
theory, feedback practice, simulation and teaching skills.
Major
Trauma
As
well as a clinical role at the regional MTC, 40% of the post is dedicated to
trauma-based non-clinical activities. Previous projects have included work on
developing a chest drain proforma for pneumothoraxes requiring a drain, as
well as local and international trauma education.
Weekly
attendance at the trauma morbidity and mortality meeting is expected, where
all cases ISS>15 are discussed. As the post continues it is expected that
you will take a more active role in this, taking part in the rota of
reviewing and presenting cases. The trauma fellow is also involved in
delivery of the monthly trauma simulation, which involves the whole MDT
trauma team. The clinical role will allow you to develop as a trauma team
leader, which will be further enhanced by your SIM involvement and other
non-clinical projects.
Ultrasound
During
the Nonclinical time trainee will be supported to develop their ultrasound
skills. Support and lead on the department and undergraduate ultrasound
courses.

Depending

depending on individual development needs. This nonclinical time is for the
development of the fellows special interest but there is also an expectation
that fellows will contribute/ support the departments education, governance
and research programmes. For example:
